I’m Lisa and I’m glad you’re here. When I was just an eight-year-old kid, my dad used to play motivational stories on cassette tapes as we’d zip around in his sports car on the weekend. From that age I have been drawn to inspirational stories.
Today, with so much negativity in the media and increasing disconnection with one another as a society, I’m more convinced than ever that we need positivity. I created Advice Column to remind you of the virtue you possess.
Join me for a bi-monthly newsletter and podcast conversations that inspire you to connect with the best in yourself, others, and the world!

Hello friend, welcome to the audio video version of the Advice Column newsletter. If you prefer to watch or listen to things rather than read them, like I do so today, I wanted to share a quote. It goes in the darkest hour, when your demons come, call on me, brother, and we will fight them together. And I couldn't find the author for that, but this was a saying, a quote, that someone on the podcast had shared, and I was really moved by it. I thought it was so powerful, and I thought of that because a few months ago I was having a little bit of a rough time. I was having trouble sleeping and I was exhausted and being exhausted always makes me then feel down and I had canceled my weekly walk that I normally go on with my friend Brittany and another one of our friends, and she asked if I was okay and I said that I was, I was just feeling a little bit of sleep deprivation and that I would be fine. But what the beautiful part of the story is that Brittany sensed that that wasn't the full picture and she drove about an hour and a half round trip on the middle of a workday to bring me a natural sleep aid and to check on me and I was so touched and I also just felt this kind of remembering that I wasn't alone, even though I was feeling in the dumps and kind of starting to feel isolated or alone that that was really just my perception and not a reality.
Speaker 1:When the demons come, it's not always my instincts to call on my sisters and brothers to help me fight them. For one thing, sometimes I'm embarrassed about the thing that I'm upset about. Other times I think that my issues are so small compared to other peoples that I shouldn't bring them up, or that I'm being selfish if I do. But being isolated when fighting demons is one of the quickest ways for me to spiral downwards, whereas calling on my sisters and brothers to fight them with me is just makes it safer and I don't know why I use the word safe but easier, safer and more of a guaranteed path to victory.
Speaker 1:If you will, I wasn't that okay that day that Brittany came over, and there might be times in your life that you're not that okay either, and in those times, asking for support might be like flooding in darkness with light. And I also wanted to relay this story because there might be someone in your orbit today who's also not that okay and you have that sense and this might be a good time to check on them. So I'm really grateful to Brittany, I'm grateful to my beautiful friends and family who support me on my life's journey, and I'm just grateful that when demons appear, we do have the choice to call on our brothers and sisters and fight them together. So I hope this encourages you when you go through those times, to reach out and also just to be aware of the people around you, which I'm sure you already are, and I will look forward to seeing you in the next podcast episode.
